Dodgers owner Frank McCourt and his wife, Jamie McCourt, back in court again regarding their divorce case

by admin ~ October 28th, 2009. Filed under: Community Property, Divorce.

The Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt and his estranged wife, Jamie McCourt, were back in court today on the issue of whether Jamie McCourt would be reinstated as the team’s chief executive officer. This filing came after she had filed for divorce and after Frank McCourt had fired her as the CEO of the Dodgers. Both sides filed declarations with Frank McCourt’s documents pointing to an alleged affair she had with her bodyguard. No orders were made by the judge today, however, and the issue was postponed so that Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon could review all of the evidence presented before him.

This divorce case seems to be one that will be followed by the entire city of Los Angeles with the city’s beloved Dodgers’ ownership in jeopardy. Although Jamie McCourt only filed for divorce yesterday, this case will likely play out for years to come as both will have to split the enormous assets that they share. In California, any assets acquired during marriage are considered community property and each husband or wife would have an equal share to whatever was acquired during the marriage (with a few exceptions). In this case, the asset we are talking about is the Los Angeles Dodgers. Therefore, splitting this incredibly famous major league baseball team, and all it carries with it will be very difficult for the attorneys involved in the case and for the judge. Today began the first round of many to come.
